  7. ABOVE BOARD PS/AT INSTALLATION

  9.          INTRODUCTION

  11.   This document contains all the information an experienced user needs to
  12.   install an Above Board and its software.  If you're not an experienced
  13.   user, you should use the Above Board manual for installation
  14.   instructions or have your dealer install the Above Board.

  16.          ADDING MEMORY
  17.          ─────────────
  18.   For a list of chips that Intel has verified, refer to the Above Board
  19.   manual or to FaxBack Document #1014, "Classic Above Board Memory Chip
  20.   Compatibility."  You can use 256K- or 64K-bit chips, but you can't mix
  21.   the two.

  23.   You must fill two columns at a time (eighteen chips). Leave no partially
  24.   filled columns.  Fill the columns in the order shown in the following
  25.   diagram:

  86.          INSTALLING SOFTWARE

  88.   Installing the Above Board software involves these steps:

  96.   Copy the files you need from the Intel diskette to your hard disk's root
  97.   directory or to your system diskette.

  99.          SETTING UP EXPANDED MEMORY
  100.   To use expanded memory, add this line to your CONFIG.SYS file:

  104.   Where the parameters without brackets ([]) are required, and those with
  105.   brackets are optional.

  152.          SETTING UP RAM DISKS
  153.   To use a RAM disk, add this line to your CONFIG.SYS file:

  157.   Where "x" specifies the size of the RAM disk in K bytes.   The value for
  158.   "x" must be at least 16 and can't exceed the total amount of expanded
  159.   memory in the computer.  Values that aren't multiples of 16 are treated
  160.   as the next higher multiple of 16.  You don't need to type a "K" after
  161.   the number.

  163.          SETTING UP A PRINT BUFFER
  164.   To use a print buffer, add this line to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file:

  196.          IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS

  198.   If you receive error messages during installation that say, "One or more
  199.   of the parameters are missing or invalid...", you probably have an early
  200.   version of the Above Board software.  You can get the latest software by
  201.   contacting Intel's Customer Support or by using your modem to download
  202.   the software from the Intel BBS.
